Kodak Theatre
The 3,332 seat theatre, located in the heart of the Hollywood & Highland center, opened in November 2001 and soon thereafter became known to more than one billion people across the globe as the first permanent home of the glamorous Academy Awards®.
The naming of Kodak Theatre by Eastman Kodak Co., is one of the most significant corporate sponsorships in history. Kodak’s prominence and long-standing ties to the film industry in Hollywood make the relationship a natural. In fact, for the 83rd consecutive year, ever since the first Academy Awards, the winner of the “Best Picture” category was produced on Kodak film.
As a first class live entertainment venue, Kodak Theatre has hosted a wide range of prestigious artists and events and various touring Broadway productions. Memorable television and awards events at Kodak Theatre have included the American Idol finals, AFI Lifetime Achievement Awards, Daytime Emmy Awards, BET Awards and ESPY Awards. The theatre will welcome an exclusive cinema-inspired Cirque du Soleil production in 2011.
Guided theatre tours are offered seven days a week, from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm from June 1 to August 31 and from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm the remainder of the year. Tours depart every half hour from Level 2 entrance and last approximately 30 minutes. Schedule and access to certain areas of the theatre is subject to change due to performance schedules. The walking tour offers visitors architectural and historical highlights of the world-renowned venue, starting with the five-level theatre lobby and grand spiral staircase as well as a glimpse of the ultra glamorous side of Kodak Theatre on Hollywood’s biggest night – the Oscars®.
